The word Mauni is derived from silence, that is, one should fast on this day with silence. On the day of Mauni Amavasya, keep a silent fast and keep your mind restrained from work, anger, greed, attachment (kaam, krodh, lobh, moh) etc.
According to beliefs, on this day in Pavitra Sangam Bhagwan`s are inhabited, so bathing the Ganges on this day has special significance.
During the Prayagraj Kumbh Mela, Mouni Amavasya is one of the most important bathing days, and is known as Amrit Yoga day and Kumbh festival.
It is believed that on this day, the first Tirthankara of Jainism, Rishabh Dev has been broken his long Mauni fast Tapasya and took a bath in the holy water of Sangam.
