Pauranik Katha of Lalita Jayanti

According to legend, the description of Mata Lalita is found in Devi Purana. Once a Yagya was being performed in Naimisharanya. During this, Daksha Prajapati also came there and all the gods stood up to welcome him. But even after his arrival, Bhagwan Shankar did not get up. Daksha Prajapati found this insulting. In such a situation, to avenge this insult, Daksha Prajapati did not invite Shiva to his yagya.

When Mata Sati came to know about this, she reached the house of her father i.e. Daksha Prajapati without taking permission of Shankar. There, he heard the condemnation of Shankar ji from his father's mouth. He felt very humiliated and gave up his life by jumping into the same fire pit. When Shiva came to know about this, he became very distraught. He carried the dead body of Mata Sati on his shoulder and started walking here and there in a frantic mood.

The whole system of the world fell apart. In such a situation, Shiva, being compelled, cut the body of Mata Sati into pieces with his chakra. Wherever her limbs fell, she sat in the same figures at those places. It became famous as the place of his Shaktipeeth.

Mata Sati's heart fell at Naimisharanya. Naimish is a Lingdharini Shaktipeeth site. Here Bhagwan Shiva is worshiped in the form of Linga. Along with this, Lalita Devi is also worshiped here. After holding Bhagwan Shankar in her heart, Sati became famous in Naimish by the name Lingdharini. She is also known as Lalita Devi.
