In every province of India, only greeneries are visible in the month of Sawan. So this greenery festival is dedicated to this natural growth which is considered as Amavasya Tithi. Due to which it is known as Hariyali Amavasya.Hariyali Amavasya is also known as Shravani Amavasya or Shravan Amavasya.
In the Brij region, farmers worship their respective agricultural implements with sweet and salty puas, sweet puris and express their gratitude towards agriculture. These sweets are distributed among the cow and the family after worship.
Hariyali Amasya is celebrated one day after Shravan Shivratri and three days before Hariyali Teej which falls in Shukla Paksha. Hariyali Amavasya is very famous in the northern states of India like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. But in Maharashtra it is known as Gatari Amavasya, in Andhra Pradesh, it is known as Chukkala Amavasya, in Tamilnadu it is known as Aadi Amavasai and in Odisha, it is known as Chitalagi Amavasya.
