Guru Purnima festival is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists to pay their teachers. And teachers are called Guru as per Sanatan Dharm terminology. Due to the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa, Guru Purnima is also known as Vyasa Purnima.
Guru Purnima is also celebrated by Buddhists in the honor of Gautama Buddha, when Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath. As per Sadguru: Guru Purnima is that full moon day when the first yogi transformed himself into the Adi Guru by Shiva became the first Guru, as He began the transmission of yoga to the Saptarishis.
In Sikhism, they believe only one God, and the voice of the ten Gurus as a real truth of life. A popular saying of Sikh religion is like the Doha in the following manner:

Students of Indian classical music and dance also celebrate this holy festival. In schools student honor their teachers by offering gifts and guru vandana. As per Jainism, this day falling at the beginning of Chaumasa, the four month rainy season and celebrate this festival as Treenok Guha Purnima.
