The birth anniversary of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is celebrated by Krishna devotees on Phagun Purnima. This year the 535th anniversary of Bhakta Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Jayanti will be celebrated on March 18, 2022. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Jayanti is also known as Sri Gaur Purnima.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, founder of Gaudiya Sampradaya:
Caitanya Mahaprabhu is also known as Gauranga because of his golden complexion. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the founder of the Gaudiya sect, this festival also marks the beginning of the new year for Gaudiya Vaishnavas. The followers of the great Mahaprabhu are called Gaudiya Vaishnavas. As stated in the scriptures, the Supreme Bhagwan Sri Krishna appeared in the form of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to establish the sankirtana-yuga dharma for this Kali Yuga. His parents named him Nimai because he was born under a neem tree in the courtyard of their ancestral home.
Chaitanya Jayanti is celebrated all over India mainly in Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and is celebrated with great gaiety in ISKCON temples across the world.
Teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu has some teachings written in Sanskrit. His spiritual, religious, enchanting and inspiring thoughts touched the soul of the people. Some of the things he taught are given below:
◉ Krishna is the ocean of knowledge.
◉ It is because of his neutral nature that the living entity is freed from all bondage.
◉ Jiva is completely separate from this world and there is one common God.
◉ Complete and pure faith is the greatest practice of living beings.
◉ Pure love of Krishna is the ultimate goal.
◉ All living beings are small parts of God.
◉ Krishna is the Supreme Truth.
◉ It is Krishna who provides all energy.
◉ The living beings get into trouble only because of their neutral nature.
According to Chaitanya, devotion is the only means of liberation. According to him there are two types of living beings, nitya mukta and nitya samsara. Maya does not affect the eternally liberated beings, whereas the eternal worldly beings are filled with illusion and delusion. Caitanya Mahaprabhu was rich in devotion to Krishna.
According to him Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare. Hare Ram, Hare Ram, Ram Ram Hare Hare. This Mahamantra is dearest and dearest to God.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is considered to be the main saint among the devotee saints. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu died at the age of 46 in 1534 AD in the city of Puri, Odisha, which is the main abode of Bhagwan Jagannath.
