Mahashivratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month. This time the festival of
Mahashivratri will be celebrated on 08 March. On this special occasion, devotees offer special worship to Bhagwan Shiva. On this occasion, devotees also visit Bhagwan Koteshwar Mahadev temple and worship and darshan the Bhagwan.
Koteshwar Mahadev Temple is located in the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga complex. According to Jyotirlinga puja tradition, Koteshwar Mahadev is consecrated and worshiped 9 days before Mahashivratri. Ekadash-Ekadashani Rudrapath is performed by Brahmins. After the puja, Bhagwan Mahakal is worshiped in the sanctum sanctorum. The Bhagwan is anointed with Panchamrit and before offering fruit juices and aromatic liquids. Similarly, in Shani Pradosh also, there is a rule to worship Koteshwar Mahadev before worshiping Bhagwan Mahakaleshwar. People come from far and wide to worship here.
