Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget on 23 July 2024 in the interim, announced that the government will undertake comprehensive development programs for the Vishnupad Temple in Gaya, Bihar and the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. Announcement to build a temple corridor like Kashi Vishwanath in Bihar, Rajgir-Nalanda will be made a global tourist hub.
Rajgir holds immense religious significance for Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. Initiatives for overall development will be taken for Rajgir. The Finance Minister said, our government will help in reviving Nalanda University to its glorious stature besides developing it as a tourist centre.
In the interim budget presented earlier this year, the total allocation for the Union Tourism Ministry was marginally increased to ₹2,449 crore in 2024-25 compared to ₹2,400 crore in 2023-24, the revised estimate for 2023-24 ₹1,692 crore.
