BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, the largest Hindu temple outside India, has been inaugurated in New Jersey, United States on September 30 in the presence of Mahant Swami Maharaj.
Will be available to the general public from October 18.Swaminarayan Akshardham is spread over 185 acres. At the inauguration ceremony, Mahant Swami Maharaj conducted the 'Pran Pratishtha' ritual at the temple amid traditional ceremonies and rituals. The construction of the temple started in 2011 and was successfully completed this year. It was a collaborative effort of 12,500 volunteers from different parts of the world. In particular, one of its distinguishing features is the largest elliptical stone dome ever built.
For the construction of the temple, 1.9 million cubic feet of stone has been used and has been brought from over 29 different sites around the world including “granite, sandstone from India, teak wood from Myanmar, Greece, Turkey and Italy Contains marble and limestone.
The temple has 10,000 statues and elements of Indian architecture and culture have been used in the construction of the temple.
