To wish for the happiness and prosperity of the entire nation, a Mahapuja was organized in Ujjain on Tuesday on the Ashtami of Chaitra Shukla Paksha. This puja is performed every year but the tradition started by King Vikramaditya of Ujjain is being carried out by Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad. 24 After worshiping Mata Mahamaya and Mahalaya at Khamba Mata Temple, liquor was offered to them. After that, this 27 kilometer long puja yatra started which will continue till evening till the worship at various Mata and Bhairav temples.
This tradition is also quite unique. In this, after worshiping Goddess Mahamaya and Goddess Mahalaya, liquor was offered to the Goddess. 24 Gaurav Guru, priest of Khamba Mata temple, said that during the city puja, saints and mahants of all the akharas including Mandakini Mata of Niranjani Akhara reached the temple. He worshiped the Mother Goddess and offered her liquor. Started this 27 kilometer journey by performing Maha Aarti. After worshiping in many Devi and Bhairav temples, this Yatra will reach Handi Fod Bhairav Temple located in Gadkalika area at around 9 pm in 12 to 14 hours. City puja will be completed there with prayers and worship. After the puja is over, the liquor offered in the Mata temple is distributed among the devotees as Prasad. A large number of devotees come here to take Prasad.
It is believed that offering liquor in Devi temples on the Ashtami of Chaitra Navratri maintains happiness and peace in the nation. There is no outbreak of epidemic. In this approximately 27 km long Mahapuja, liquor is offered in 40 temples.
