Gandhi Jayanti on Saturday, Sunday and then on Monday. During the three-day holiday, crowds of devotees gathered in Braj to have darshan of the Bhagwan. There was only pushing and shoving from the road to the temple. Nearly five lakh devotees arrived on Monday alone. In such a situation it became difficult to have darshan. A large number of devotees returned with folded hands without having darshan of the deity. Since Saturday and Sunday are weekends, Vrindavan is crowded with devotees. Due to the three-day holiday, lakhs of devotees from Delhi-NCR as well as surrounding states reached Vrindavan.
There was traffic jam in the city the whole day on Sunday. Vehicles remained stranded for hours. This problem could not be resolved even on Monday.
The doors of Thakur Banke Bihari Temple were to open at quarter to eight in the morning, but even before that the devotees reached the streets around the temple. The situation became worse when the doors opened. The roads were completely packed with devotees. At many places, devotees were stopped at barricades even before the temple.
