On Thursday, June 13, 2024, all four gates of Jagannath Temple of Puri were opened for the devotees. According to Odisha Tourism, the Jagannath Temple, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra, is a symbol of spiritual purity and cultural heritage for millions of devotees. Pilgrims and devotees can now enter the temple through all the four gates.
Newly appointed Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi during his inaugural cabinet session, the newly formed BJP government in Odisha gave the green signal to the proposal to reopen all the four gates of Shri Jagannath Temple in Puri. Also, he resolved to create a corpus fund to meet the immediate needs of the ancient 12th century temple. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi along with his ministers and other leaders also reached the temple in the morning to offer prayers and seek blessings.
Till now devotees were able to enter the temple through only one door. This is the first time after the Covid-19 pandemic that all the doors of the temple have been opened for devotees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous BJD administration had kept all four gates closed, restricting devotees to one entry.
