Sri Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple, a form of Bhagwan Vishnu, is located near Mayur Vihar Phase 1 Metro Station. Bhagwan Sri Uttara Guruvayurappan is mainly worshiped in Kerala. The temple was established on 17 May 1983.

Who is Sri Uttara Guruvayurappan?
Guruvayurappan is worshiped as Sri Krishna in his child form, known as Guruvayoor Unnikannan (Guruvayoor Baby Krishna). The word Guruvayurappan, meaning Lord of Guruvayur, comes from the word guru, which refers to Guru Brihaspati, the guru of the devas, vayu meaning wind and appan meaning deity, meaning 'father' or 'lord' in Malayalam. Since Guru and Vayu installed the idol of Krishna, the deity was named Guruvayurappan.

Mythology and Architecture of Sri Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple
The idol of Guruvayurappan is believed to have been worshiped by Krishna's parents Vasudeva and Devaki, and represents a complete manifestation of Vishnu, and later worshiped by Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu himself.

The idol is made of stone called Patal Anjanam or black bismuth and is in standing posture with four arms holding Panchajanya (conch), Sudarshana Chakra, Kaumodaki (mace). and Padma (Lotus). The architecture of Sri Uttara Guruvayurappan Temple is typical of Kerala style. Apart from the main Krishna temple, the complex has smaller temples dedicated to Ganapati, Shiva and Ayyappa and a replica of the serpent Kavu dedicated to the serpent deity.

This temple belongs to a private trust which is well maintained. There is a lot of crowd of devotees here during festivals. This temple is most revered by the Malayali and Tamil communities in Delhi.
