Ucchi Pillayar Temple History and Architecture
The temple was built in the 12th century by the Chola dynasty. It is built in the Dravidian style of architecture, which is characterized by its tall, ornate towers. The Rockfort Temple Complexity has three shrines, two dedicated to Bhagwan Ganesh, the Manikka Vinayagar Temple at the foot and the Uchi Pillayar Temple Rockfort at the top of Tayumanavar Temple between them. The Thaimanavar Temple, the most significant of the three, houses the Amman (Devi) and the main deity.
According to legend, this rock is the place where Bhagwan Ganesh fled from King Vibhishana after the installation of the Ranganathaswamy deity at Srirangam.

The temple is open to the public every day, devotees can take darshan from 6 AM to 8 PM . The temple is most crowded during the festival of Vinayaka Chaturthi, which is celebrated in the month of August. During this festival, people from all over south India come to the temple to worship Ganesh.
