Shri Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Trinetra Lord Shiva in the form of three symbols of Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. The shivling is not visible in the sanctum of the temple inside but if you look at it carefully, there are three genders of one inch each in the argha. After doing puja in the morning, the silver panchmukhi crown is placed in the argha.
The present Trimbakeshwar temple was constructed by Peshwa Balaji Bajirao III at the old site of the temple. Construction of the temple had started in 1755 and was completed in the year 1786 after a long time of 31 years.
This temple is situated between three hills Brahmagiri, Nilgiri and Kalagiri. There are four entrances around the temple. According to the spiritual vision, the east direction is for beginning, west is maturation, south is perfection and north is a revelation. Shri Trimbakeshwar Devasthan Trust was registered publically in 1954. There is a ritual to do daily prayers thrice in the temple.
Trambakeshwar Maharaj is considered to be the king of this village. Therefore, every Monday the silver panchmukhi crown is placed in the palaki and made a visit to know the situation of the people in the village. Then after taking a bath in the Kushavarta pilgrimage, it is placed again on the Shivling. This entire scene looks like the coronation of Trimbak Maharaj, and it is a very pleasant experience to join this supernatural journey.
Kalsarp Shanti, Tripindi Vidhi and Narayana Nagbali Poojan are done only in Sri Trambakeshwar Jyotirling. The entry of women in the womb chamber (garbh-grah) is completely prohibited here.
