Shri Durgiana Temple, also known as Shri Durgiana Tirath, Laxmi Narayan Temple or Sheetla Mata Temple, is located in Amritsar, Punjab. The temple derives its name from Devi Durga, who is the main deity worshiped here. The sanctum of the temple is also called the Silver Temple because of the large exquisitely designed silver doors, on which are inscribed the incarnations of Vishnu and other deities.

Shri Durgiana Temple Architecture and History
The artwork, architecture of Shri Durgiana Temple is similar to that of the Golden Temple. The domes and sections of the outer walls of the temple roof are plated with more than 40 kg of gold. The temple is built in the middle of a sacred lake, measuring 160 m x 130 m. A bridge provides an approach to the temple. The dome of the temple is of gold. Marble has been used extensively in the features of the temple. The idols of Devi Lakshmi and Bhagwan Vishnu are also enshrined and worshiped here. The sound of shlokas echoes in the temple premises.
Major Festivals at Shri Durgiana Temple
The major Hindu festivals celebrated at Shri Durgiana Temple are Dussehra, Janmashtami, Ram Navami and Diwali. A swan festival is also celebrated at the Durgiana temple in the holy Shravan month of the Hindu calendar, where newly married couples assemble at the temple to worship Radha Krishna. Women adorn themselves with flower ornaments and worship in the temple along with their husbands. Another festival celebrated in the Durgiana temple complex is the famous Langur Mela during the 10 days of Navratri and Dussehra. A large number of pilgrims along with their children dressed up as langurs visit the Bara Hanuman temple to offer prayers at this temple located in the Durgiana temple complex.
How To Reach Shri Durgiana Temple
Shri Durgiana Temple is located in Amritsar. And Amritsar city is very well connected with other cities by all roadways, railways and airways. So one can easily reach Amritsar and visit Shri Durgiana Temple.
The land on which the pond and the temple stand today is associated with the epic Ramayana. Worship is performed at the Shri Durgiana Temple as it is believed that Sita performed regular worship for the deity at this place. According to legend, the sacrificial horse was set loose after the Ashwamedha Yagya, which was performed by Rama to claim the territories through which the horse had passed. It was here in Amritsar, at the site of the present Durgiana temple, that Luv and Kush, the twin sons of Rama, living in exile with their mother, Sita, captured the horse.
There is a banyan tree here which dates back to the Ramayana period. The tree is considered to fulfill wishes. Devotees go around it, offer flowers, apply paste of turmeric and vermilion, make vows. Childless couples wish for children by tying molly around the branches of the banyan tree. They also promise to bring their child in the form of a langur if their wish is fulfilled.
