The beginning of the Shankara Viman Mandapam's history, which spans thousands of years, is deeply steeped in Hindu mythology and the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya. Respected philosopher and theologian Adi Shankaracharya promoted the Advaita Vedanta ideology. It is believed that he went to Prayagraj and did penance there.

Adishankar Viman Mandapam, built on the initiative of Kanchi Kamakoti Peeth, is a 130 feet high temple built in Dravidian style. A group of devotees of Adishankar started the construction of Shankara Viman Mandapam a few decades ago. This temple was built as a memorial to the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya and a place of prayer for his devotees. It still stands as a magnificent monument and testament to that commitment. The sculptures on each floor are unique and the temple is well maintained. A beautiful view of the Sangam can be enjoyed from the top floor of this temple.
