According to this, Mata performed penance for 100 years in a deserted place, where there was no rain. During this penance, mata consumed vegetables only once a month.
Due to the penance of the mother, that herb originated in this deserted place. In such a situation, sages and saints had come to see it. It was named Shakambhari because of the penance based on plants. After this penance this place became green. The earth became dominated by precious metals.
Along with prosperity, conflicts also started over this natural wealth. Then mata converted the valuable wealth and priceless treasures here into salt.
