Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir is one of the sacred Mandirs of Hindu Bhagwan Hanuman. It is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Bhagwan Hanuman is worshiped in Sankat Mochan Mandir. This Mandir is also known as Monkey Mandir because of the many monkeys inside the premises. History and Architecture of Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, Varanasi
Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir was built in the early 1900s by educationist and freedom fighter Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. Sankat Mochan Mandir is identified by the presence of the idol of Bhagwan Hanuman in front of Bhagwan Ram.
The architecture of Sankat Mochan Mandir is extremely attractive. On one side of the Mandir, there are idols of Bhagwan Ram and Mata Sita, and on the other side, there are idols of the monkey army worshiping Bhagwan Lakshman and Bhagwan Shiva. Bhagwan Hanuman is worshiped in the Sankat Mochan Mandir in an elliptical shaped worship gallery, which seats about 250 worshippers. The architecture of Sankat Mochan Mandir is a combination of traditional and modern elements. Prasad and vermillion are placed on the idol of Bhagwan Hanuman, which is sold by devotees in the Mandir grounds. They also use flower garlands to decorate the idol of Bhagwan Hanuman.
According to the legend, it is said that this Mandir was built after Goswami Tulsidas had the darshan of Hanuman. This Mandir was established by the famous saint (author of Ramcharitmanas) Goswami Tulsidas. Ramcharitmanas is a Hindi translation of the Hindu epic Ramayana written by Valmiki.

Major Festivals at Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, Varanasi
Every year on Hanuman Jayanti, a unique procession is organized from Durga Mandir (Durga Kund) to Sankat Mochan Mandir. Every Tuesday and Saturday, thousands of devotees visit the Mandir to worship Bhagwan Hanuman and recite Hanuman Chalisa and Sunderkand.
Every year in April, the Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh (a festival of classical music and dance) takes place. Great musicians and artists from all over India gather to participate in this festival. This festival was first organized 88 years ago.
