Shri Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir, located in the valley of Bandh near Jalmahal on Jaipur-Delhi Highway, is decades old. The renovation of the temple makes the gateway to Jaipur even more attractive. The temple can be entered from the south or east entrance, where parking facilities are also available at the east entrance. A huge statue of Hanuman ji in meditation posture is installed towards the south gate of the temple, this statue attracts every person going from Delhi. The famous Shri Annarpuneshwari Devi Temple and the picturesque tourist spot Jal Mahal are also situated near the temple.
The main festivals of the temple are Hanuman Jayanti, Paush Bada Mahotsav, Shravan month (Sawan), Monday of Sawan and Shivratri. All these festivals are celebrated with great pomp and show by the temple. Along with these major festivals, Kavad Yatra, Sharadiya and Chaitra Navratri, Diwali and Annakoot Mahotsav, Holi Milan are also celebrated with equal energy. Along with all these Hindu festivals, the temple also has some of its own festivals like Maa Vaishno Devi Patotsav on 16th April, Sitaram Ji Patotsav on 25th April, Ganesh Ji Patotsav on 19th May and 41 Feet Hanuman Patotsav on 18th July.
Decades ago, a poor cowherd named Ganga Sahay Meena was going towards the cow fair to sell his cow. There his cow freed itself from the rope and ran away. Despite looking at many places, he could not find any trace of his cow. This made him extremely sad. He was wandering from forest to forest in search of his cow. Then his eyes fell on a place covered with leaves. He started cleaning that place, removed the leaves, and saw the idol of Hanuman ji covered with leaves. He prayed to Shri Hanuman ji that he had come here to get some money by selling his cow. So that he can take care of his family. But he is very upset due to the loss of the cow.
Saying this, as soon as he came down from that place, he found his cow standing below. He was very happy and on the day of Gyaras, he offered food to Hanuman ji and vowed that on the Gyaras of every month he would come here and offer food to Hanuman ji. In this sequence, other people also started joining it. In this way gradually the development of the temple started.
This cowherd is none other than the founder of the temple, Shri Ganga Sahay Ji Meena, who established the temple in 1965. After this, in 1980, an 11 member committee of the temple was formed. The work of registration of the temple was done in 1995-96. A pagoda was built in the temple only in 1995. After this, Ram Darbar was consecrated in 2002 and Ganesh ji temple was consecrated in 2009. After this, in 2012, Ganga Sahay ji went to Vaishno Devi temple, from there he brought three stones to build the temple of Vaishno Devi and established Sankat Mochan Maa Sherawali temple. In 2015, a huge 41 feet tall statue of Hanuman ji was installed on a corner of the hill in the temple. The work of making this huge statue was completed by the skilled artisans of Kerala in about 2 years, which was inaugurated by the Maharaja of Triveni Shri Narayan Das ji from his lotus feet on 18 July 2015. After this, the construction work of Chhoti Kashi temple was completed in 2018.
