Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Temple is dedicated to the Dalit icon Guru Ravidas in the Karol Bagh area of central Delhi. He is considered the founder of the 21st century Ravidassia religion.
Ravidas Jayanti is celebrated every year on Magha Purnima, which is the full moon day of the month of Magha according to the Hindu calendar. Sant Ravidas was associated with the Bhakti movement during the 15th to 16th centuries and his hymns are included in the Guru Granth Sahib.
On the occasion of Ravidas Jayanti, Prime Minister Modi offers prayers at Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham, Karol Bagh, New Delhi. After offering prayers, Shri Prime Minister also participated in Shabd Kirtan [Mere Satguru Den Dayal] with women devotees and interacted with others; Modi ji spent 15-20 minutes in the temple dedicated to the poet-saint of the Bhakti movement.
Modi also left a note in the visitor`s book of the temple. `Mahan Sant Guru Ravidas ji ki jayanti ke avsar par unki is pavan sthali par sheesh jhukane ka saubhagya prapt hua. Aaj ke iss vishesh din unka aashirwad prapt kar krutharth hua. Jaat paat chhua-chhut jaisi kuprathaon ko samaj se dur karne k liye samarpit unka jeevan hum sab ke liye prernadayi hai`.
During this visit, PM Modi was seen playing Manjira sitting with the devotees. He also shared a video clip of him participating in 'Shabd Kirtan' at the temple and described it as 'very special'. Watch this video here:
