Patan Devi Mandir History and Architecture
As per mythology when the body part of Ma Sati fell here, three goddesses-Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasarasswati came into existence, whose idols are placed in the Patan Devi temple.

One more belief is that the name ‘Patan’ is derived from pata of the Sati, which fell here and the temples were named Badi Patan Devi and Chhoti Patan Devi.

The temple has special significance, as all three forms of powers, Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati and Mahakali are present here in the form of stone statues. Inside the sanctum, black stone statues of the Devi’s are placed on a throne in a standing posture. Their attire is sari and mukut (crown). There is also Vyom Bhairav with the deities which is called part of Shiva. A big havan Kunda (4-5 feet deep) just in front of the sanctum. A large verandah covers the front space of the sanctum and havan Kunda lies in front of the exit gate of this verandah.

The temple is also believed to be associated with the mythological story of the great king, Manu, who is said to have built the city of Patna and established the temple in honour of the goddess.
