In the Ramayana, Panchwati is very popular in the context of Lord Ram`s 14 years of exile period. According to beliefs, Mata Sita had stayed here for a long time with Lord Ram and Lakshman. It is located on the banks of Godavari river and the entire Panchwati is spread over an area of about 5 Km. The actual meaning of Panchwati is an area surrounded by five banyan trees.
In the present phase, Panchwati here refers to the five banyan trees which are marked as approximate numbers with Sita cave. The Sita Gufa Temple is not big enough, but it is a place full of spiritual energy due to the meditation point of Mata Sita.
We have to lean down to go inside the cave. Therefore, most of the people enter the cave while sitting on the steps. Later, the cave gets even smaller. The murti of Lord Ram, Lord Lakshman and Mata Sita are there inside the cave. Photography is prohibited inside the premises. Gaushala has also been constructed in front of Sita Cave.
