Shri Narasimha Temple is a popular temple in Joshimath. Famous as a part of Sapta Badri, Narasimha Temple is also known as Narasimha Badri Temple and is a sacred place to visit in Joshimath. The deity of the temple is the fourth incarnation of Bhagwan Vishnu (Narasimha avtar) in the form of half lion and half man. This Narasimha temple is considered to be one of the 108 Dasams of the Bhagwan.

Mythology behind Narasimha Temple Joshimath:
According to legend, Bhagwan Vishnu took the form of this Narasimha avatar to kill a demon king named Hiranyakashipu and to protect his beloved devotee Prahlad.

1. This temple was built by Adi Guru Shankaracharya.
2. According to beliefs, this temple is associated with the Mahabharata. It is said that the foundation of this temple was laid by the Pandavas.
3. So on the other hand another legend is mentioned by the people that here the idol installed in Joshimath appeared by itself.

When Badrinath Dham temple is closed during winter season, then the priests of Badrinath temple go to Narasimha temple to continue the worship, that is, we can say that there is a connection between Narasimha temple and Badrinath temple.

Legends associated with the idol of Bhagwan Narasimha installed in the Narasimha Temple:
The left hand of the famous Narasimha idol installed in this temple is getting thinner day by day. It is said that on the day the idol of Narasimha ji installed in this temple will fall down, on that day Nar and Narayan mountains, known as Jai and Vijay Parvat, will collide with each other and due to the collision of these mountains, the road leading to Badrinath will remain forever will be closed.

⦿ By air, the nearest airport is Jollygrant. After reaching Jolly Grant Airport, you can take local transport from here to the temple.
⦿ If you want to go by train then the nearest railway station is Rishikesh. You can easily reach Narasimha Temple Joshimath by taking a bus or taxi facility from Rishikesh.
⦿ If you want to go by road then Chamoli district is connected to the national highway of different cities of India then you can reach Narasimha temple comfortably by reaching Chamoli.
