In the center of the Meenakshi Mandir is a Murti of Mata Meenakshi and at a distance from it is placed a huge statue of Bhagwan Ganesh which has been carved from a single stone.

Who built the Meenakshi Mandir
The daughter of King Mallaya Dwaj and Queen Kanchan Mala is considered to be the Mata Meenakshi who was born after many yajnas. This three-year-old girl was revealed by the fire of the last yagna. Mata Meenakshi is considered to be the form of Mother Parvati who was born on earth to honor the promise given to Kanchan Mala in her previous life. Born to Meenakshi as Sundareswarar, Bhagwan Shiva married Mata Parvati and both came to Madurai. Bhagwan Shiva and Mata Parvati ruled here for many years.
