Maihar Mata Temple is located at Trikut hill, Maihar city, Madhya Pradesh. Maihar Mata Temple is dedicated to Mata Sharda. Mother Sati's necklace had fallen in the Sharda temple of Maihar, one of the 51 Shaktipeeths. It is said that all the wishes of those who visit this temple built on the top of the mountain are fulfilled.

Mythology Behind Maihar Mata Temple:
According to the local people of Maihar, the warriors Alha and Udal, who were at war with Prithvi Raj Chauhan, were very strong followers of Sharda Devi. He is said to be the first person to have darshan of the Devi in this remote forest. He used to call Mata Devi by the name of Sharda Mai, and hence she became popular as Mata Sharda Mai. Alha worshiped for 12 years and attained immortality with the blessings of Sharda Devi. It is also said that Alha and Udal cut off their tongues and offered them to please the Devi. The mata was then pleased with his devotion and reattached his tongue. Apart from this story, Maihar is a very famous religious place in Madhya Pradesh. Thousands of pilgrims come daily to visit this temple.

Miraculous Wonders Behind Maihar Mata Temple:
This is a temple where a miraculous event happens everyday. No one stays in the temple during the night, but fresh flowers are found in front of the Devi before the arrival of the priest the next morning. It is believed that after offering this flower to the heroic warriors Alha and Udal, they leave.

How To Reach Maihar Mata Temple:
In this temple one has to climb 1001 steps to have darshan of Mata. However, for the last few years, the facility of ropeway has also started here, devotees can use this facility. Maihar is well connected to major cities by both roadways and railways. From here you can hire an auto rickshaw or taxi till Sharda Mata Temple.

The local people come here in large numbers for the Mundan Ceremony of their new born baby. Therefore, for the proper convenience of the devotees, proper arrangements have been made by the temple for this Mundan Sanskar. Tourist places like Alha Talab and Alha-Udal Akhara are also located near the temple.

Along with the famous temple of Maa Sharda, Alha Mandir, Bada Akhara Mandir, Golmath Mandir, Badi Mai Mandir and Ichhapurti Mandir are located in the city of Maihar.
