Kalika Mata Temple is located near Pavagadh hill in Panchmahal district of Gujarat, India. Mata Mahakali Temple, situated on the hills of Pavagadh, is surrounded by natural beauty. The temple complex is part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
History and Architecture of Kalika Mata Temple:
Kalika Mata Temple was built in the 10th or 11th century. The temple has three images of deities: the central image is of Kalika Mata, Kali on the right and Bahucharamata on the left. A fair is held in the temple on Chaitra month in which thousands of devotees participate. Kali Yantra is worshiped in the temple. The temple is believed to be the abode of Kali Mata, and is one of the Shakti Peethas, as the symbolic toe of Devi Sati fell here.
Major Festivals:
This temple is one of the biggest tourist and pilgrimage centers of Gujarat, which attracts a large number of people every year. The devotees of Kalika Mata who come to the temple worship by beating the bell-metal symbols. Especially the full moon of Chaitra, Dussehra, Navratri are the major festivals of the nine-day all-powerful devotional festival. A large number of devotees come together for this festival.
Recent Event:
The spire of the temple was destroyed by Sultan Mahmud Begada about 500 years ago. However, the spire of this 11th century temple on Pavagadh hill has been restored under a redevelopment plan and the Prime Minister hoisted the flag on its top. Modi ji said \"The ensign was not hoisted over the Mahakali temple for five centuries, even during the 75 years of independence. The flag hoisted on the temple is not only a symbol of our spirituality, but it also says that centuries pass, ages pass, but our faith remains eternal\"
How to reach Kalika Mata Temple:
Kalika Mata Temple is located near Halol, Gujarat. You can visit here when you are visiting Gujarat or nearby areas of Vadodara city. The temple can be easily reached by ropeway or stairs. It takes about an hour by steps and a maximum of 15 minutes by ropeway. It is situated on a rock in the midst of a dense forest. The view from the ropeway is breathtaking.
At the foot of the hill there are Doodh Talab and Talai two ponds and an ancient Digambar Jain Temple.
