Maa Sharda Temple is located in village Maihar in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. It is believed that Devi Sharda is the incarnation of Devi Saraswati. This temple is one of the Shaktipeeths of Devi Bhavani. It is believed that the necklace of Devi Sati had fallen in Maihar. It is believed that this temple was discovered by two brothers Alha and Udal. It is believed about this temple located on Trikut mountain in the middle of Vindhya mountain ranges that the first worship of Mother Sharda was done by Adiguru Shankaracharya.
History and Architecture of Maa Sharda Temple Maihar
Maa Sharda Temple, approximate distance from Satna District Headquarters is 40 Kms. The temple is situated at a height of 600 feet on the Trichut mountain. To reach the shrine one has to climb 1001 steps. This temple of Maa Sharda situated in the pyramidal Trikut mountain is of 522 BC. It is said that on the day of Chaturdashi in 522 BC, Nripal Dev had established Samvedi here, from then onwards the period of worship in Trikut mountain started. There is evidence of the fact in historical documents that on the Chaturdashi of Chaitra Krishna Paksha in the year (522 BC), Nripaldev had established Samvedi Devi.
Alha and Udal were two brothers. He was a brave warrior of Mahoba in Bundelkhand and a feudal lord of Parmar. In the court of King Parmar of Kalinjar, a poet named Jagnik had composed a poem named Alha Khand, in which the saga of these heroes is described. This book contains a thrilling description of 52 battles between the two heroes. He fought the last battle with Prithviraj Chauhan.
It is believed that after the evening Aarti, when all the priests close the doors of the temple and come down, then the sound of bells and worship is heard from inside the temple. It is said that devotees of Mother Allah still come to worship. They often perform the morning aarti. Mahant of Maihar temple says that even now it is Allah who does the first adornment of the mother and when the doors of the Sharda temple are opened in the Brahma Muhurta, the puja is found done. A team of scientists has also gathered to solve this mystery but the mystery still persists.
Just behind the temple are the arenas of two famous warriors of history and goddess devotees, Alha-Udal, and there is a pond and a grand temple in which the sword of Alha, who has been blessed with immortality, has been handed over to a huge statue of him. Golamath Temple, Rameshwaram Temple of 108 Shivalingas, Hanuman Temple are other religious centres.
