Why Shani Dev Temple of Kokilavan is called Siddha:
In Dwaparayuga, Shani Dev had done severe penance to please Bhagwan Krishna. Pleased with his penance, Shri Krishna appeared to Shani Dev in the form of a cuckoo. Shri Krishna had said that Kokila forest adjacent to Nandgaon is his forest. The person who worships Bhagwan Shani and circumambulates this forest gets the blessings of both me and Bhagwan Shani. This is the reason why the Shani Dev temple of Kokilavan has the status of Siddha temple. Shri Shani Dev Temple, Shri Gokuleshwar Mahadev Temple, Shri Giriraj Temple, Shri Baba Bankhandi Temple, Shri Dev Bihari Temple are prominent in Kokila Dham. Apart from the temples, two ancient lakes and cow schools are also located here.
Story of Kokilavan and Shani Dev:
According to mythology, Shani Dev did a severe penance to have the darshan of his favorite deity Bhagwan Krishna. Pleased with his penance, Shri Krishna appeared to him in the form of a cuckoo. The forest in which Bhagwan Krishna appeared to Shani Dev is known as Kokila Van. When Shri Krishna was born in Brijmand, all the gods and goddesses came to see him. Shani Dev was also present in all these. But mother Yashoda did not allow him to see Shri Krishna. He was afraid that Shani Dev's curved vision might fall on Shri Krishna.
Shani Dev was very disappointed with this and went to a forest near Nandgaon and started doing penance. Pleased with his penance, Shri Krishna appeared to Shani Dev. Shri Krishna told Shani Dev that you should always reside at this place. Shri Krishna appeared to Shani Dev in the form of a cuckoo, hence this forest is known as Kokilavan.
