History and Architecture of Khajrana Ganesh Mandir
The Mandir was built in 1735 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of the Holkar dynasty, who retrieved the idol of Bhagwan Ganesh from a well where it was hidden for safekeeping from the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. In this Mandir, Ganesh ji, Mata Durga, the underground Shivling of Mahakaleshwar, the statue of Ganga ji flowing with water on the crocodile, the Mandir of Lakshmi ji, as well as the tableau of Hanuman ji are fascinating. Shanidev Mandir and a grand Mandir of Sai Nath are also situated here, it seems as if all the gods and goddesses are present at one place.
Devotees circumambulate the Mandir and tie a thread and pray to Bhagwan Ganesh for the successful completion of their work. It is said that the ancient idol in the Mandir was seen in the dream of a local priest, Pandit Mangal Bhatt. The Mandir is still managed by the Bhatt family. Here, whichever devotee makes an upside down Swastika on the back of Bhagwan Ganesh to fulfill his wish, Bhagwan Ganesh fulfills his wish. When the wish is fulfilled, Swastik is made again.
The Mandir regularly receives donations of money, gold, diamonds and other precious gems. The gate, outer and upper walls of the sanctum sanctorum are made of silver and various moods and festivals are depicted on it. The eyes of the Bhagwan are made of diamonds which were donated by a businessman from Indore. The arrangements of the Mandir here are of very high quality.
