Shri Kedar Gouri Temple (श्री केदार गौरी मंदिर) is a group of two temples, Shri Kedareshwar Temple and Shri Kedar Gauri Temple, located near the Mukteshwar Temple. It is one of the eight Astasambu temples of Bhubaneshwar.
Kedar Gauri Temple is actually a complex consisting of two separate temples, one dedicated to Bhagwan Shiva and the other to Devi Parvati. As per mythology Bhagwan Shiva, accompanied by Devi Parvati, came to this place from Varanasi, as he preferred a more serene location.
Kedar Temple is one of the two temples in the Kedar Gauri temple complex. The architectural features of this temple are similar to the Siddheshwar temple located in the Mukteshwar temple complex. A Shivalinga named Kedareshwar is installed in this Dakshin Mukhi temple. It has Rekha type Vimana and Peeth type Jagmohan. The Pancha Rath on the temple plan and the Panchang on the height is bigger. The outer wall is surrounded by idols of Bhagawan's like Ganesh, Kartikeya and Parvati.
The Gauri Temple is the second temple in the complex and is dedicated to Gauri, the consort of Bhagwan Shiva. Intricate carvings have been done on the outer walls of this temple. This east-facing temple has the Khakhra Deula type of Vimana and the Pitha type of Jagmohan.
There are also three small temples of Shiva, Hanuman, Durga and Ganesh in the complex. There are also two ponds in the temple complex named Khira Kund and Marichi Kund, which are said to have sacred powers. It is believed that the water of Khira Kund frees the human from the cycle of birth and death while the water of Marichi Kund cures female infertility.
Festivals:
Every year during the Sheetal Shashthi festival, Bhagwan Lingaraja (Shiva) is taken in a grand procession from Lingaraja temple to Kedar Gauri temple, where he marries Devi Parvati.
