A small village of India developed into a metropolitan Pune city is an effective history of Punawadi. Most of the beautiful temples built in different time periods were destroyed during various wars.
In 1630, Queen Jijabai Bhosale reached Pune with her 12-year-old son named Shivaji. Shivaji has vowed to free maval from the Mughals. At the same time, a statue of Lord Ganesh was found near Vinayak Thacker's house, who lived near the residence of Rani Jijabai Bhosle. Jijabai has considered it as an auspicious moment and then started the construction of a temple which is now popular as Shri Kasba Ganpati Temple. After this auspicious moment, Shivaji had started building the Swarajya kingdom. Shivaji Maharaj used to take the blessings of Shri Ganesha before going to any war.
Since then, Pune is also known as the city of Lord Ganesha. In this temple, Lord Ganesha is worshipped as a God of the village. Every person who lives in Pune or coming to Pune city should definitely visit this temple because of the God of village Lord Krishna is also a protector for those who live here.
During Ganesh Utsav, Kasba Ganpati being the local god of Pune is the reason why the devotees start celebration from immersing the murti of Lord Ganesha in the river for their blessings.
