The ancient temple of Jaharveer Gogaji is a historical temple more than 1 thousand years old, which is located at a distance of one kilometer from Gogamedi railway station in Hanumangarh district on the railway line of Sri Ganganagar Jaipur. On one side there is the temple of Gogaji and on the other side there is Gorakhtila of Gogana village, the popularity of Gogaji all over India and especially in North India can be judged from this quote.
Goga in every village, Khejri in every village
Meaning - Gogaji's place will be seen under the Khejri tree in every village.
Gogamedi is the name of the temple of Bhagwan Gogadev, because of this temple this village was named Gogamedi. Because it was built at a high place, it was named Gogamedi. This temple has one storey and is situated on a high mound. It is also called Gogamedi by some devotees due to the difference in pronunciation of their country and region.
As soon as you enter the main temple, a small platform-like stone samadhi is installed in front. Three carved statues can be seen on this samadhi, which respectively represent Gogadev ji riding on a horse in the middle, Rajguru Senapati Naharsingh Pandey ji in front of the horse and Shastragar prabhari Bhajju Kotwal ji behind the horse.
The Goga Jyoti (Akhand Jyoti) first worshiped by Nahar Singh Pandey is lit on the left side wall of the sanctum sanctorum of Gogamedi temple. Nahar Singh Pandey was the first to light the first flame of the temple after Shri Gogaji took Samadhi. Hence this first Jyoti is also known as Naharsingh Pandey Jyot and Samadhi Jyot. Since then this Akhand Jyoti has been burning continuously till now. Moving ahead, a little before the exit door, there is another lamp present in the temple for proper lighting.
According to local residents, 20-30 lakh devotees come here every year for darshan. Most of whom come from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. More devotees from Punjab come here during Shukla Paksha.
Nahar Singh Kund -
As soon as you leave the main temple, Nahar Singh Pandey Ji's water pond is located on the Parikrama Marg, which is in a circular area of about 4-5 feet. By bowing down at this pond, the devotees take blessings to fulfill their wish and then tap, sprinkle or touch the water from the pond. Just a few sprinkles of water are considered as blessings from Bhagwan and fulfill the wishes of the devotees. Even today, Nahar Singh Pandey blesses the devotees at Vashanj Kund. This water pond is the original place of worship of Pandit Nahar Singh Pandey above the underground stream of Saraswati river.
Gogaji -
People also call Gogaji by names like Sappho (Serpent Bhagwan), Gugga Veer, Jahir Veer, Jahar Peer etc. It is a popular belief that if a person affected by snake bite is taken to Gogaji's pond i.e. temple, then that person becomes free from snake poison.
