The Ganga Godavari Udgam, also known as Gangadwar, is located on the Brahmagiri hill in Nashik. This is the place where the Godavari stream comes after starting from Bhamhagiri (nearby mountain). At a short distance there is also the place where Guru Gorakhnath had performed penance. There are also 101 Shivaling’s here.
About Ganga Godavari Udgam in Detail:
The Godavari, South Vahini Ganga, originates at an altitude of 1067 m in the Brahmagiri Hills of the Western Ghats in Nashik district of Maharashtra and continues to travel south east for more than 1465 km to meet the Bay of Bengal at Narsapuram in West Godavari district.
Like other Indian rivers, the Godavari originates from the Shiva temple, Trimbakeshwar, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. After Trimbakeshwar and just before Nashik, there is a pond called Chakratirtha, from here the Godavari flows as river. Therefore many people consider Chakratirtha as the direct origin place of Godavari.
