Tilak Nagar named due to freedom fighter Shri Bal Gangadhar Tilak (or Lokmanya Tilak). Most of the population are Pindi and Pishori Sikhs who migrated from Rawalpindi / Peshawar of Pakistan during the partition. Now, the Tilak Nagar market is popular for a wide variety of Punjabi marriage related products.
