After losing his only son to an epidemic of plague, Lord Ganesha`s Dagadusheth Halwai Ganapathi Temple was built by Sri Dagadusheth Halwai and his wife Lakshmibai. In later years, Lokmanya Tilak made the Ganapati festival a public celebration to bring people together for the freedom struggle.
The efforts of Srimanta Dagadusheth Public Ganpati Trust have led to many other important social works including educational and financial assistance to underprivileged children, Suvarnayug Cooperative Bank, Old Age Home, Rehabilitation of poor laborers, etc.
Just to the right of the Ganapati temple is the ancient Sri Siddheshwar Temple of Bhagwan Shiva, which is almost impossible to see apart from the Ganesh temple.
Mango is called the king of fruits in India. Every year on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, the major traders of Alphons Mango in Pune offer 11,000 mango fruits as Prasad to Shri Ganapathi. This festival is called Amba Festival or Mango Festival.
