Vaastu proved, ashtakoneey (octagonal), Shiva Yantra shaped Prachin Kailash Dham is famous as Chopda Mahadev Mandir. Archaeology of India declared this temple as 500 years old structure, oldest Shiv mandir in Dholpur estate.
Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Shri Jayendra Saraswati has also offered Shri Shiv abhishekam in this temple. There is also a kund next to the temple. The name of this temple is known as Chaupra Mandir, because of the chaokor(square) shape of this kund.
No article is found about the construction of Choda Shiva temple. But according to the investigation by the Department of Archeology, the temple is about 500 years old. The height of this temple is 150 feet. One has to climb 25 stairs to reach the Garbhagriha (sanctum sanctorum). The temple is unique from the architectural point of view, its Garbhagriha (sanctum) is ashtakoneey (octagonal). Which is also seen as Shri Shiva Yantra. It also has eight doors in its eight walls. Attractive sculptures are engraved on each door, and an idol of Bhagwan Brahma sits at the entrance of the temple. The shikhara of the temple is also very attractive and finely carved with beautiful carvings.
Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Shri Jayendra Saraswati has also visited this temple and perform Abhishek. The Chopda Shiva Temple is the oldest Shiva temple in Dhaulpur city. There is also a pool next to the temple. The name of this temple became known as Chaupra Temple due to the Chokor of this pool. While the original name of the temple is ancient Kailash Dham.
This Shiva temple is located about a hundred steps to the left on the Gwalior-Agra road. In the temple, the process of worshiping takes place under the supervision of Shri Ganesh Acharya with complete scriptural legislation. A large number of devotees gathered in the temple to offer prayers on Shivaratri, Sawan mahina and weekly Monday.
