Basukinath Temple, Basukinath Dham is the second most famous temple in and around Deoghar. It is located in Jharkhand, on the way from Deoghar to Dumka. Basukinath Temple is dedicated to Baba Bhole Nath. Basukinath is one of the oldest temples of Deoghar. Devotees who come to visit Baidyanath temple also visit Basukinath temple. People also call it Patal Shivalinga.
History and Architecture of Basukinath Temple
In Basukinath temple, the temples of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati are facing each other. In Basukinath Temple, when the doors of both the temples are opened in the evening, devotees are advised to move away from the door because it is believed that Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati meet each other at this time. Within the same complex, there are several additional smaller temples dedicated to different gods and goddesses. This temple is about 150 years old. This temple was built in 1596 by a tribal named Baski Tatme.
The temple is made of white marble and is built in the style of traditional temples of the Jharkhand region, with a lotus-shaped dome. Van Ganga is the name of a pond which is close to the temple. Before seeking the divine blessings of Lord Shiva, pilgrims take a bath in this sacred pond.

Basukinath temple remains open throughout the week. Devotees can visit from 5 am to 5 pm and it is open from 6 pm to 11 pm.
Major festivals of Basukinath temple
Shivratri is the main festival in Basukinath temple. Shravani Mela, also known as Kanwariya Mela, lasts for about a quarter of a month in the month of Shravan. During this period the importance of Baba Basukinath Dham increases. In the months of July and August, a large number of people from many states of India come to visit and offer water. As part of the Ram-Janaki marriage ceremony, special puja is performed in a very grand manner in the temple.
How to reach Basukinath Temple
Basukinath Temple is about 42 kilometers away from Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga Temple. It is situated on the Dumka-Deoghar state highway at a distance of 24 kilometers from the district headquarters. It is located in Jarmundi block and is connected to the Dumka-Deoghar railway route. It is located at a distance of 25 km from Dumka and 50 km from Jasidih railway station.
