Baijnath Temple is an ancient Shiva temple. It is situated 16 km away from Kausani town in Baijnath district of Uttarakhand. The temple is actually a group of some small temples which are located in the complex of the main temple of Bhagwan Shiva. The temple is a small town situated at an altitude of 1126 meters on the banks of river Gomti in Bageshwar district. It is famous for its ancient temples. Baijnath temple has an ancient Shiva temple. The main temple has a beautiful idol of Devi Parvati made of black stone. There is a very beautiful natural view from this temple, it feels like you are in heaven. This circuit includes four places named Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Baijnath temple was built by the Kumaon Katyuri king in the name of Vaidyanath Shiva around 1150 AD. Later this temple came to be known as Baijnath. According to the legends about Baijnath Temple, it is believed that the marriage of Bhagwan Shiva and Parvati took place at the confluence of river Gomti and Garur Ganga. This temple is dedicated to Bhagwan Shiva Vidyanath, the god of physicians. Legends also say that this temple was built by a Brahmin woman and is dedicated to Bhagwan Shiva. There is an interesting fact about this temple, it is believed that this temple of Baijnath was built in just one day.

The temple remains open throughout the week. Darshan timings are from 6 am to 9 pm. It will take 1 - 2 hours to complete the darshan. Shivratri and Navratri are the major festivals of Baijnath Uttarakhand. Thousands of tourists come here on the occasion of Maha Shivratri.
