Shri Babulnath Temple is one of the oldest temples situated on the small hill in Mumbai. The three main reasons behind the name of this temple are as follows:

1) The gawala named Shri Babul has shown this Shivling to his Swami Shree Pandurang, hence the name of the temple is called Babulnath.

2) The original shivling of the temple was found under the shadow of Acacia (Babul) tree, hence it was named as Babulnath.

3) In Hindi, the meaning of Babul or Baba is everyone`s guardian and father. Hence, be a guardian of all Lord Shiva named as Babulnath.
