🪔Vilakku Pooja - विलक्कु पूजा

Koothu Vilakku means standing oil lamp or vertical standing deep, which symbolizes the removal of ignorance and the awakening of the divine light within us.

South India - In Tamil Nadu, most of the housewives perform this Tiruvilakku Pooja regularly at home by chanting 108 Pootri regularly. Its soft glow illuminates the temple or temple room, keeping the atmosphere pure and serene.

Thiru-vilakku is lit daily in South Indian Hindu homes, as Thiru-vilakku is believed to be a form of Maa Mahalakshmi, the devi of fortune and wealth. Thiruvilakku Puja is performed by female devotees to seek the blessings of the divine mata Lakshmi Devi. This puja is done for the well being of the family members and it brings goodness to each and every member. It is believed that those who sincerely perform Thiru Vilakku Puja by lighting lamps in the temples, Maa Mahalakshmi will also be present in that auspicious event, and she blesses those who participate in the Deep Puja.

❀ Before beginning this puja, the sacred lamp should be thoroughly cleaned, and turmeric and kumkum applied to enhance its sanctity.
❀ One can also prepare sacred offerings for bhog that are believed to be a favorite of Devi Lakshmi, such as sweets made from pure cow ghee, offerings made from butter, and fruits. And it should be offered to Devi Lakshmi.
❀ After the puja is over, you can also offer Prasad items to the cows.
❀ Generally, this puja is performed by married women for the long life of their husband.
