Param Purna Purushottam Bhagwan Shree Swaminarayan was born on Chaitra 9 on the occasion of Ram Navami in Vikram Samvat 1837, April 3, 1781 AD. Swaminarayan Jayanti is celebrated on the ninth day of Navratri in the Hindu month of Chaitra. He enlightened millions and his immortal teachings inspire many people across the world. He is also known for spreading the message of Sanatan Dharma.
Significance of Swaminarayan Jayanti:
The disciples of Swaminarayan celebrate this auspicious day with great enthusiasm every year. It is said that Bhakti Mata, the mother of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, gave him the name of Ghanshyam, but his father called him Dharma Dev.
Rituals of Swaminarayan Jayanti:
On the day of Swaminarayan Jayanti, devotees wake up early in the morning, take bath and worship the Bhagwan. The idol of the deity is placed on a decorated cradle and flowers, fruits etc. are offered to it. Devotees observe Nirjala fast, that is, they keep fast for the whole day without drinking water. However, they are allowed to eat fruits during the time of their fast.
Since the Bhagwan was born at 10:10 pm, aarti of the child form of Swaminarayan is performed in all the temples at this time. Devotees make offerings to Bhagwan Swaminarayan on this day by reciting his spiritual texts. Devotees have detailed discussions on topics related to spirituality promoted by Bhagwan Swaminarayan.
