As per the traditions, Gaudiya Vaishnavism is the devoted worship of Shri Krishna and Radha Rani. The recitation of the Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavata Purana is performed to interpret the disciplines of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (founder of Gaudiya Vaishnavism). Gaudiya Vaishnavism does half day fasting practices in Radhashtami. Some devotees follow strict fasting during this day. They do fast for the entire day without consuming a drop of water. This day is celebrated as the resemblance of the devine love of Lord Krishna and Radha Rani, devotees worship to praise Radha Rani for the favour to acquire Krishna’s grace and dignity.

Traditionally, Radhashtami is mainly celebrated in the Braj area. The icons of Radha Rani and Lord Krishna are entirely dressed in flowers on this day. Radhashtami is the day when devotees get the auspicious sight (Darshan) of Radha Rani because, on the other days, Radha’s feet remain covered.

On the day of Radhashtami, Devotees do fast practices and sing devotional and spiritual songs (Goddess Radha Gayatri Mantra) to praise the divine lovers (Lord Krishna and Radha Rani). Radhashtami is ceremoniously celebrated in Barsana, Mathura, Vrindavan and Braj Pradesh.

This day signifies a unique relationship between God and human that honours the selfless bond of Shri Krishna and Radha Rani. Radha Ashtami is celebrated after 15 days of Janmashtami festival.

In Barsana, usually taking a bath in holy Radha Kund is strictly prohibited. But on the day of Radha Ashtami, the devotees stand and wait till midnight to take a dip in the holy water of the Radha Kund to receive her divine love and blessings.
