Chaitra month is the first month of the Indian calendar. Indian New Year begins from the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of this Chaitra month. And from this Pratipada date, the nine-day long Chaitra Navratri begins. The original inhabitants of India are Hindus, and after the advent of other religions, this new year has also been called Hindu New Year.
