Meerabai Jayanti Date: Tuesday, 7 October 2025
Meerabai Jayanti

Meera Bai is considered to be the biggest devotee of Bhagwan Krishna. Meera Bai had devotion to Bhagwan Krishna throughout her life and it is said that her death also took place in the idol of God. There are no historical records on Meera Bai's birth anniversary, but according to the Hindu lunar calendar, Sharad Purnima day is celebrated as Meerabai's birth anniversary.

Many things related to Meera Bai's life are still considered a mystery. According to the book Bhakta-Charitanka of Geetapress Gorakhpur, some things related to the life and death of Meera Bai have been told.

Important things in Meerabai's life:

Prabhu Shri Ram's devotion at the behest of Tulsidas
At some place in the history, it is found that Meera Bai also made Tulsidas a guru and performed bhakti. Krishna devotee Meera has also written Ram Bhajan, although it is not clearly mentioned, but some historians believe that there was a communication between Meerabai and Tulsidas through letters. It is believed that Meerabai wrote a letter to Tulsidas ji that his family members do not let him do devotion to Krishna. To get Sri Krishna, Meerabai sought a remedy from her mentor Tulsidas. At the behest of Tulsi Das, Meera wrote hymns of devotion along with Krishna. In which the most famous hymn is “Payo Ji maine Ram Raman Dhan Payo”

Bhagwan Krishna devotee since childhood
Meera Bai, the only daughter of Rathore Ratan Singh of Jodhpur, was immersed in Krishna-devotion from childhood. The image of Krishna was settled from Meerabai's Balman, so from the youth to the death, he considered Krishna as his everything. His Krishna love reached its peak due to a childhood incident. One day in childhood, a procession came to some rich person in his neighborhood. All the women were standing on the terrace watching the procession. Meerabai also came to the terrace to watch the procession. Seeing the procession, Meera asked her mother, who is my bridegroom, on whom Meera Bai's mother, in derision, pointed towards the idol of Bhagwan Shri Krishna and said that this is your bride, this thing is like a knot in Meerabai's balaman She went and started thinking of Krishna as her husband.

Marriage with Bhojraj
Meerabai's family wanted to marry her when she was eligible for marriage, but Meerabai did not want to marry anyone else, considering Srikrishna as her husband. Going against the wishes of Meerabai, she was married to Bhojraj, the prince of Mewar.

Meera's Krishna Devotion
After the death of her husband, Meera's devotion increased day by day. Meera used to go to temples and dance for hours in front of the idol of Shri Krishna. Meerabai's Krishna devotion did not suit her husband's family. His family also tried to kill Meera several times by poisoning him. But nothing happened to Meerabai by the grace of Shri Krishna.

The end of Mirabai merged into Shri Krishna
It is said that due to devotion to Mirabai throughout his life, he died while doing devotion to Shri Krishna. According to beliefs, in the year 1547, in Dwarka, while worshiping Krishna, she visited the idol of Shri Krishna.

As per Mythology, Meera was Gopi of Vrindavan
It is believed that Meera was a gopi from Vrindavan in her pre-birth and she was Radha's friend in those days. She loved Bhagwan Krishna in her heart. Even after getting married to Gopa, his attachment to Shri Krishna did not diminish and he gave up his life in the yearning to meet Krishna. Later the same Gopi was born as Meera.
