Gangasagar Mela starts from 2-3 days before Makar Sankranti and takes place at its peak on the day of Makar Sankranti. Gangasagar Mela is known among the spiritual masses as Gangasagar Snan or Gangasagar Yatra. Gangasagar Mela is celebrated on the basis of Sankranti, so this bathing festival is usually celebrated between 14 and 15 January every year, irrespective of the date.

❀ First of all, Naga Sadhus and Saints-Sanyasis who came from the Himalayas take a royal bath.
❀ Only after that the devotees enjoy the Gangasagar bath.
❀ Devotees worship the Surya Bhagwan and offer prayers to their ancestors.
❀ In the temple of Kapil Muni Mahapuja is organized along with Yagna.
❀ In the evening, a huge program of Deep Daan is seen with the aarti of Samudra Dev.
