Chhinnamasta Jayanti, this day is dedicated to Mata Chhinmasta. Maa Chhinnamasta is an incarnation of Maa Kali, the devi is also known as Devi Prachanda Chandika in many parts of the country. According to the Hindu calendar, Chhinnamasta Jayanti is celebrated on Chaturdashi Tithi in the month of Vaishakh, which is the 14th Tithi of Shukla Paksha.
Significance of Chhinnamasta Jayanti:
Devi Chhinnamasta is considered to be a life giver as well as a life giver. Chhinnamasta is the sixth Devi out of the ten Mahavidya Devis. Devi stands on a copulating pair, holding her head in one hand and scissors in the other. There are three streams of blood coming out of his throat, two streams helping his servants, Damini on the right and Varnini on the right, consuming the third stream herself. Chhinnamasta Devi is as bright as millions of suns, her complexion as red as a hibiscus flower. Chhinnamasta Mata is worshiped to get victory over the enemies and due to the fierce nature of the mata, this sadhana is done by the Tantriks. She is often associated with Kundalini awakening.
Chhinnamasta Jayanti Kimbadanti:
It is believed that Maa Parvati along with her two servants went to take a bath in the Mandakini river. Her servants were asked to protect her, meanwhile the mata enjoyed the bath. However, in the meantime, she forgot the actual calculation of time and her attendants started feeling hungry and they all asked for food. Therefore, to feed them, the Devi cut off his head and three streams of blood came out of his neck, two of which satisfied his attendants and the third satisfied his many heads.
Worship method of Chhinnamasta Jayanti
◉ On this day, devotees take a quick bath, wear new clothes and keep a strict fast.
◉ The idol of Mata Parvati is worshiped by placing it on the altar. In some temples the idol of Bhagwan Shiva is also kept with him.
◉ Offer blue flowers and garlands. The Devi is pleased with the incense and other things of covetousness. So light incense sticks or sprinkle itar.
◉ Light a lamp of mustard oil, offer coconut, sweets, especially urad dal.
◉ Small girls are also worshiped on this day and they are given food.
