❀ Chhatrapati Shivaji, the founder of the Maratha Empire, was born in Shivneri Fort in Junnar district of present-day Maharashtra.
❀ Shivaji Maharaj's name was Shivaji Bhosale and he was a member of the Bhonsale Maratha dynasty. He was born in Shivneri Fort on the Marathi Shalivahana in 1630 according to Krishna Paksha 3 of the Hindu calendar Phalguna. He is considered one of the greatest Maratha rulers, carving out a territory from the Adilshahi Sultanate of Bijapur, which marked the beginning of the Maratha Empire.
❀ Shivaji was devoted to his mother Jijabai, who was a very religious and courageous woman. He is ultimate devotee of Bhava (Lord Shiva) as well as Bhavani ( Devi Parvati/Durga)
❀ According to historical records, at the age of 16, Shivaji Maharaj captured Torna Fort, while Raigad and Kondana forts were captured a year later. He is also known for re-establishing Hindavi Swarajya.
❀ Chhatrapati Shivaji, known as a skilled strategist, won many wars against the Mughals and created the Maratha Empire. In 1674, he was formally crowned as 'Chhatrapati' or Emperor.
