What is Goga Navami? (गोगा नवमी क्या है?)

Goga (Gugga) Navami is celebrated on the second day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami in the month of Bhadrapada. Goga ji is the folk deity of Rajasthan. Who is also known as 'Jaharveer Goga ji'. On this day the birth anniversary of Shri Jaharveer Gogaji is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Gogamedi is a town in Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan. Here on the Navami of Bhadon Shukla Paksha, a fair of Gogaji deity is held.
Apart from Rajasthan, this festival is also celebrated with great reverence and faith in some areas of Himachal Pradesh including Punjab and Haryana. According to mythological belief, there is no danger of snakebite by worshiping Goga Ji Maharaj. Goga Devta is considered to be the god of snakes. Therefore, serpents are worshiped on this day. It is believed that by keeping the soil of the place of worship at home, one gets freedom from the fear of snakes.

How to perform the Puja?
⦿ After bathing on the day of Navami, either by bringing an earthen idol of Goga Dev at home or the picture of Veer Goga ji riding on a horse should be worshiped with roli, rice, flowers, Gangajal etc.
⦿ Offer kheer, churma, dumpling etc.
⦿ Offer gram dal reverently on Goga ji's horse.

Devotees worship Nagdevta by listening and reading the story of Goga ji. At some places, Bambi of snake is also worshiped. It is believed that whoever worships the God of serpents with a sincere heart, Goga ji Maharaj. Let all their wishes come true.
