Velliangiri Hills (वेल्लिंगिरी पर्वत)

Velliangiri hill is situated at a distance of 40 km from Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. Velliangiri Mountains are one of the most difficult trekking destinations. Dedicated to Velliangiri Parvat Swayambhu, a form of Bhagwan Shiva, the temple on the Velliangiri hills is a favorite meditation place for sages and siddhas. This is Sadhguru's favorite mountain where he attained enlightenment. It was this place that inspired Sadguru to consecrate the Dhyanalingam.

Legend has it that this is the temple where the Bhagwan himself performed a loukik dance, requested by his consort Uma Devi. This holy place is known as Rajagiri, Velliangiri, Dakshina Kailash or Bhulok Kailash. Of all the festivals, Maha Shivratri is celebrated here with great enthusiasm and faith.

Things to Note for Trekking in Velliangiri Hills
❀Situated on the Western Ghats, the hills are a part of the famous Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Velliangiri hills are considered to be the Kailash of the South. The hills are also a popular pilgrimage site. The lush green hills are a trekker's paradise as they are situated at an altitude of 2438 metres.

❀Trekking you have to walk barefoot. If your objective is purely trekking then you can go wearing your shoes and slippers. 99% people would prefer barefoot as it is considered a holy place and they go to the top of the mountain to worship the Bhagwan.

❀Not a single plastic material (except water bottle) is allowed on the mountain. At the bottom of the mountain, the guards will check you thoroughly and even biscuit covers are not allowed. The guards have paper bags into which all your belongings will be transferred and returned to you.

❀Velliangiri is famous for the trek of the seven hills. If you trek non-stop, it will take 30–45 minutes to complete the first hill, probably one of the most difficult hills among the seven. It will be all steps, steps and steps. Once you reach the first hill, you will find shops that sell a lot of eateries and drinks. You can see similar stores sometimes up 5th hill. The second and third hills will be both stairs and plain, being easier than the first. It will take another 45-60 minutes to complete them. The 4th and 5th hill will be mostly flat and you will enjoy the walk after climbing thousands of steps. It will take another 45-60 minutes. Stages 6 and 7 are the toughest of the trek.

❀Women in the age group of 10 to 50 years are not allowed. Although you can offer prayers in the temple, women are also going on trekking as of now.

Finally, on the top of the hills, you can see the idols of Gods, caves, Gods etc. You can get blessings from them. You will have the experience of a lifetime once you come down from the mountain.
