According to the Hindu panchang, the month of Magha is the eleventh month. The full moon of Magh month is in the moon and Ashlesha Nakshatra, hence this month is called Magh month. In the month of Magh, worship is done for happiness, peace and prosperity.
Mythology behind Magh maas:
According to legend, Gautam Rishi cursed Indra in the month of Magha. On apologizing, Gautam Rishi asked him to make atonement by bathing in the Ganges in the month of Magha. Then Indradev had bathed in the Ganges in the month of Magh, as a result of which Indradev was freed from the curse. That's why it is considered sacred to bathe on Maghi Purnima and Maghi Amavasya in this month.
